Over these past months, I've been excitedly sharing about my chapter in the Women Gone Wild: Leadership anthology.

So it breaks my heart a little to share this: due to a production error, the chapter printed under my name in the first edition is not the chapter I wrote. It's an early draft I never approved, with a different message, in a voice that isn't mine.

‍My actual chapter, Leading From Within, did not make it into the first printing.

The team is correcting it now, and an updated edition is on the way. Whether you bought the book, were planning to, or just found your way here, I want you to have my real words.

Leading From Within introduces the Leadership From Within framework, a values-based approach drawn from my two decades leading user experience teams at companies including Google, YouTube, and Sony PlayStation. It's about what happens when you stop performing someone else's version of leadership and root into your own, and about the clarity, courage, and trust that follow.

ABOUT REENA

I'm Reena Merchant, a User Experience Director at Google and the founder of OurVoice.

Over the past twenty-five years, I've led user experience teams at companies including Google, YouTube, Sony PlayStation, Citrix, and BlackBerry, shaping products used by millions of people around the world.

Along the way, I earned an MBA in Design Strategy from California College of the Arts, and my work and community contributions have been featured in the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, and Silicon Valley Modern Luxury. In 2018, I was named a finalist for Woman of the Year by Women in IT Silicon Valley.

Through it all runs OurVoice, the community I founded to help people strengthen their self-esteem and authentic presence.

It's the same belief that carries Leading From Within: lasting leadership starts from who you already are.
